The All Ireland Chef of the Year which took place on the 4th March, saw top chefs from every corner of Ireland competing in this one day event. The competition was open to both senior and junior chefs who had to cook a three-course meal for four people in on the spot. The competition was run by the Leinster Branch, Panel of Chefs Ireland and was kindly sponsored by Bunzl McLaughlin. Congratulation to Deirdre, who also represents The Tourism College Killybegs, cooked the following dishes: Ravioli of Sea Vegetables with Steamed Clams, clam Vinaigrette, white Wine and Coriander Cream; trio of Irish lamb loin with rabbit and wild mushroom rarce, roast rack with parsley crust and lamb spring roll; citrus tart served with a side of pina colada ice cream and a Flambé of Tropical Fruit.
The champion, Deride Clinton, received the All Ireland Chef of the Year Trophy from Sean Martin, Sale Director for Bunzl McLaughlin, and also won a Long weekend in Villeroy and Boch Chateau Luxembourg from Simon Kitto, Villeroy and Boch.
Congratulations are due to the Irish Culinary Team both Juniors and Seniors after taking home 24 silver medals and 11 bronze medals from the Culinary Olympics 2008 in Erfurt, Germany on the 19 - 22 Oct, Deirdre Clinton, Head Chef, Heron’s Cove and Irish Chef of the Year 2008 travelled and worked with the National Irish Culinary team at the Culinary Olympics 2008 in Erfurt. The achievement of the National Irish Culinary Team this year 2008 at the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany was a record that has not been achieved since 1984. This is a great result for Ireland and the National Irish Culinary on the culinary World Stage
